Title fight to top the bill at Nottingham’s Harvey Hadden

On Saturday 16 March, Scott Calow‘s second promotion at Nottingham‘s Harvey Hadden Sports Village will see Ekow ‘The Engine’ Essuman defending his Welterweight English title against his most difficult opponent to date in former British champion Tyrone Nurse.

The 10-round title contest headlines a card stacked with local talent which gives several of the boxers taking part the opportunity to make their professional debuts.

“This is the acid test for Ekow, taking on an opponent who holds the key to unlock the door to the bigger domestic fights he’s aiming for,” said Scott. “With Tyrone looking to regroup after a difficult phase in his career and Ekow on the ascent, they both have everything to play for and there’s no doubt in my mind that the crowd will be in for a treat when the two go head to head for this one.”

Among the boxers walking out as professionals for the first time will be Newark‘s Regis ‘The First’ Sugden, who annnounced his decision to switch from MMA in November.

In a Welterweight match, details of which are still to be confirmed, the Suggy’s Gym 23-year old is following in the footsteps of older brother Chad ‘2 Slick’ Sugden, who began his pro boxing career in May 2016 and who joins Regis on the card in what is expected to be a Light Heavyweight title contest.

Sharing the same surname but unrelated, Ilkeston‘s Kyle Hughes and Beeston‘s Joe Hughes also make their pro debuts on the show, while Mark Bennet chases an area title when he takes on Kash Ali in a Heavyweight contest.

At Super Middleweight, Dylan Clegg will be out to maintain his impressive form in a third pro contest, Nathan Kirk will be looking to regroup after a controversial defeat in Bournemouth and unbeaten Jack Hutsby gets the next fight in his short career.

Completing the action-packed line up, Omari ‘Kriptik’ Grant will defend his 8-0 record as he pursues a Midlands title fight and both Ryan Amos and Jordan Ringham walk out for their second professional contests.

“With our new signing former East Midlands amateur champion Sam Spooner making his pro debut on Saturday 9 March on a Dinnington show which also features Carwyn Herbert in his sixth outing as he chases a Welsh title shot, we’re getting 2019 off to an active start,” added Scott. “And there’s more big news in the offing – negotiations are currently taking place with a national broadcaster and we hope to be be able to announce a TV deal early in the New Year.
