Only a few years have passed since Nathan Kirk began his career as a professional boxer, coming from a kickboxing background with very little boxing experience under his belt.
On Friday 4 October he took on his biggest test to date in an eight-round Lightweight contest against world class boxer Gavin McDonnell on the card of the Stefy Bull Promotions event, NEXT LEVEL, at the Doncaster Dome.
And, although things didn’t go Nathan’s way, his manager Scott Calow was quick to assure him that, despite being stopped in the seventh round, Captain Kirk did himself, his team and his followers proud.
“He held his own against an opponent to be reckoned with,” said Scott. “Even though he didn’t get the result we were all hoping for, he covered himself in glory. So the story continues and we’ll be behind him every step of the way.”
“It was always going to be a tall order but after the fight plenty of people told me that I didn’t look out of place there in the ring,” commented Nathan. “Gavin is vastly experienced at world level and last night I learned a lot that I will use to get back out there and win the Midlands Area title next year.
“But first things first – I’ve already had scans on the shoulder injury that left me unable to continue the contest and hopefully I’ll have good news for everyone very soon.”
With less than a week to go, all eyes turn now to those of Nathan’s fellow local professionals who will be walking out at the Harvey Hadden Stadium in Nottingham on Saturday 12 October.
Doors for ACID TEST, featuring Suggy’s Gym‘s Chad Sugden in the Main Event, open at 6.30pm with tickets on sale from individual boxers on the card, priced £60 VIP and £40 standard seating.
