2020 got off to a flying start for fighters and fans alike last week, with all three local men on the card of BACK IN TOWN coming out on top in their pro boxing match ups.
On Friday 21 February, the crowd at Doncaster’s Holiday Inn saw Ryan Stevenson, Josh Padley and Cameron Kaihau rack up convincing wins in the first show of the year jointly promoted by Joe Elfidh and Scott Calow under the BOXING CONNECTED banner.
Getting the evening under way, Ryan was too skilled for his opponent Geilboord Omier, giving him a beating which led to a stoppage when the Spaniard’s corner pulled him out.
Next up it was the turn of Josh, taking a chance after only three pro fights when he went up against a quality opponent in Jordan Ellison, who defeated former Commonwealth champion Sean Dodd just over a year ago.
“Managed by Joe Elfidh and trained by Ian Allcock, as Ryan is too, Josh won every round in a first class contest and made it clear he’s set for a big future in professional boxing,” said Scott Calow after the event.
Then it was Cameron’s turn to walk out into the ring where he was up against one of the country’s best journeymen, Kevin McCauley who as always proved he has a solid chin as the bout progressed.
But Cameron went all out to show that he is developing into a really good professional under his dad/coach Simon, taking his pro record to 4-0 in an entertaining four-rounder.
“After a great start to the year, we’re not wasting any time and will be BACK WITH A BANG on Saturday 29 February for the next BOXING CONNECTED show, with a stacked card featuring two Ultimate Boxxer finalists and several unbeaten fighters at Mote Park in Maidstone,” added Scott.
“Then just one week later all eyes will be on the Harvey Hadden Stadium for NOTTINGHAM CALLING, another action-packed evening on Saturday 7 March which will see Nathan ‘Captain’ Kirk topping the bill when he goes head to head with Nicaraguan Featherweight champion Josue Bendana.
“With both boxers having KOs on their records, this one has all the potential to be explosive and is guaranteed to be a great Main Event on another talent-stacked card.”
