News just in – Nottingham-based pro boxer Omari ‘Praying Mantis’ Grant is preparing to move things up a notch in his first ten-rounder…
The 29-year old, who trains out of the Nottingham School of Boxing and is managed by Scott Calow, will face former English and Commonwealth title challenger Lee Appleyard at Rotherham’s Magna Centre on Saturday 20 July in an eliminator for the English Super Lightweight title.
“I’ve been trying to carve something out for Omari for a while and getting on this opportunity will catapult him up the rankings and secure him an English title fight,” said Scott when the contest was confirmed.
“This will be my hardest challenge to date against an extremely tough, talented and experienced opponent,” commented Omari, who will be looking to add another victory to his unblemished record of eight wins from eight contests.
“Fighting in such a big arena against such a great opponent is a fantastic opportunity for me and I’d like to thank Scott, my coach Chris Slatcher and the rest of the team who have all helped to make this possible.
“My goal has always been to keep learning and pushing myself on and now it’s time to push things to another level. To everyone who’s supported me along the way so far, get the date in your diaries guys and watch this space for full details – I’d love to have your support again in July!”
