Local boxers put on another action-packed show in Nottingham

Once again boxing fans turned out in force to support their local favourites on the bill of last night’s ACID TEST at the Harvey Hadden Stadium in Nottingham.

An action-packed evening saw some real battles take place in the seven bouts on the card, which included a classic fight between Bilborough’s Kyle Hughes and Danny Shannon from London.

“My money was on this one for an explosive bout,” said the show’s promoter, Scott Calow. “It certainly lived up to my expectations, with Danny’s extra experience winning through in the end.”

Newark’s two boxing brothers both proved they have a very bright future in the boxing world, with Chad Sugden defeating Holland’s Farouk Daku by a unanimous points win in the Main Event and his younger brother Regis Sugden stopping his opponent Luke Middleton by third round TKO.

Earlier in the evening, Olly Newham got the night started in a match up which saw his opponent Dylan Courtney taking a lot of punishment but coming through in the end, while Nottingham’s Conner Short defeated Joe Beedon to win his debut in style.

“The bout featuring Joe Hughes and Jordan Rodriguez, who has 7 KOs from 8 wins on his record, proved to be a real war,” added Scott. “After absorbing an onslaught in the first round, Joe out-boxed his Spanish opponent for the rest of the contest to take the win. Unfortunately Jordan fell ill after the fight and had to be taken to hospital, which caused the show to be put on hold for a while – we wish him all the best for a speedy recovery.

“And there was a victory too for Ryan Amos who, with his Tyson-like style, kept the pressure on seasoned pro Chris Jenkinson to come out on top.

“All in all, it was a great night and the feedback from the public and the press has been fantastic, which makes all the effort put in by everyone worthwhile.”
